DowとBASFが合成樹脂や機能製品が好調で大幅増益になった。
しかしBayerは、合成樹脂（Material）が大増益になった反面、医薬や農薬が不振で減益となった。
2008年に世界経済の悪化で、Dow やDuPont
などで人員整理が行なわれる中、Bayerが気を吐いていた。
今回は逆になった。
BayerのWerner Wenning 会長は2008年12月に 同社の状況を以下の通り説明した。
この数週間で経済状況は著しく悪化した。
しかし、Bayerでは相変わらず自信を持っている。こんな時こそ、長期的は企業戦略が成果を生む時である。売上高の70%を占めるHealthCare 部門とCropScience 部門は、不況の影響を受け難い。
