トランプ米大統領は1月7日、凍結が解除されたツイッターに動画を投稿し「新政権が20日に発足する。今は円滑で秩序だった政権移行に集中している」と述べた。 初めて退任を認めた。

大統領は1月8日午前、ツイッターへの投稿で「質問してきたすべての人たちへ。私は1月20日の大統領就任式に出席しない」と表明した。
まず、大統領を支持する人々を賛美し、その後に就任式欠席を表明した。
"The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future.
They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!""To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th."
米ツイッターは1月8日、トランプ米大統領のアカウントを永久停止したと発表した。暴動後の同氏の上記のツイートを精査した結果、さらなる暴力行為を扇動する危険性があると判断したという。
直接的に暴力行為を扇動する発言はないが、「6日に起こった暴力行為を再現するよう、人々を鼓舞する可能性が高い」と説明した。
現在、トランプのツイッターをクリックすると、下記が表示されるだけである。過去の記事もすべて抹消されている。

上記のトランプのアカウントは https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump で、個人としてのアカウント(Real Donald Trump) である。
大統領としては別の https://twitter.com/potus がある。（POTUSはPresident of the United States の略。）
前者が永久停止となった直後の1月8日夜、トランプ大統領は後者に下記の反論を載せた。
"As I have been saying for a long time, Twitter has gone further and further in banning free speech, and tonight, Twitter employees have coordinated with the Democrats and Radical Left in removing my account from their platform, to silence me -- and YOU, the 75,000,000 great patriots who voted for me."
ツイッターの従業員たちは民主党員や急進左翼と連携し、私や私に投票した7500万人を黙らせるため、私のアカウントを削除した。
Twitter may be a private company, but without the government's gift of Section 230 they would not exist for long. I predicted this would happen.
